Speaker of the National Assembly and FORD–Kenya Party Leader Moses Wetang’ula has called on residents of Kabuchai Constituency to remain peaceful and united as the November 27th by-election draws closer.
Wetang’ula, who led a major campaign rally at Mukhweya Primary School Grounds in Chwele–Kabuchai Ward, urged voters to back the party’s candidate, Mr. Vincent Maunda, describing him as a committed and development-minded leader.
“We are appealing to the people of Kabuchai to elect a leader who understands your needs, who will work for you, and who will build upon the progress already achieved,” Wetang’ula said during the event.
The rally, attended by top county and national leaders, including Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka, Senator Wafula Wakoli, FORD–Kenya Secretary-General Hon. John Chikati, and Deputy Speaker of the County Assembly Stephen Wamalwa, sought to consolidate support for Maunda as the preferred successor to the late Hon. Barasa Mukhongo.
Wetang’ula lauded the late Mukhongo’s service to the people of Kabuchai, noting that he had served “with loyalty, humility, and distinction” under the FORD–Kenya party banner.
> “Hon. Barasa Mukhongo was a true son of Kabuchai — a leader who put people first. It is only fitting that the party he represented continues his legacy of service and development,” he said.
The FORD–Kenya leader also took the opportunity to emphasize the importance of peaceful campaigns, urging candidates and supporters across political divides to conduct themselves with restraint and mutual respect.
> “As we approach this democratic exercise, let us maintain peace, respect each other’s choices, and ensure the will of the people prevails,” Wetang’ula stated.
He reaffirmed the party’s confidence in Vincent Maunda’s ability to lead, pledging that his administration would focus on empowerment, infrastructure improvement, and the advancement of community welfare.
> “With the support of the people and the party, Mr. Maunda will ensure Kabuchai continues to grow, and that no one is left behind in our journey toward progress,” Wetang’ula added.
The by-election was called following the passing of Hon. Barasa Mukhongo, and the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has set November 27, 2025, as the official polling date.
FORD–Kenya, which has long dominated the political landscape in Bungoma County, is seeking to retain the seat amid rising competition from rival parties.
