Steven John Waiswa Charged in Sh223M Gold Scam
A man has been charged with obtaining over Sh223 million in a fake gold deal targeting a foreign national.
Steven John Waiswa appeared before Irene Thamana at the Milimani Law Courts. He denied charges of conspiracy to commit a felony and obtaining money by false pretences.

Sh223 Million Fake Gold Deal Allegations
Prosecutors allege that between March 31, 2024, and May 30, 2024, Waiswa conspired to steal USD 1,271,200.74.
The amount is approximately Sh223,756,000.
The complainant in the case is Tanner Caldwell Cook.
According to the charge sheet, Waiswa allegedly claimed he could sell 2,820 kilograms of gold to the complainant.
The prosecution says he knew that representation was false.
