Sidian Bank has committed KSh2 million towards the second edition of Run 4 Seniors, a charity event aimed at improving the lives of vulnerable elderly people across Kenya.
The sponsorship will support the annual initiative organized by Mama Ibado Charity, which is scheduled to take place on July 18, 2026, at Karura Forest in Nairobi.
The event seeks to raise funds and awareness for programmes that support senior citizens through healthcare services, nutrition assistance and community welfare initiatives.
The latest contribution positions Sidian Bank among corporate organizations supporting efforts to ensure older members of society receive the care and attention they need.
With Kenya’s ageing population steadily increasing, welfare organizations have continued to call for greater investment in programmes targeting elderly citizens, many of whom struggle with limited access to healthcare, food and social support.
Mama Ibado Charity President Ahmed Jibril welcomed the partnership, saying the sponsorship would help expand the organization’s reach and strengthen support for vulnerable senior citizens.
According to Jibril, older persons often face challenges that receive little public attention despite their growing needs.
He noted that the partnership demonstrates the importance of collaboration between the private sector and charitable organizations in addressing issues affecting elderly citizens.
The charity has built its reputation through programmes that provide food, medical support and social care to senior citizens, particularly in Isiolo and Kakamega counties.
Through its Seniors Feeding Programme and Seniors Healthcare Programme, the organization supports elderly people who would otherwise struggle to access basic services.
Jibril said the support from Sidian Bank will help ensure more elderly people benefit from those initiatives.
The Run 4 Seniors event is expected to bring together corporate organizations, development partners, community groups and individual participants united by a common goal of promoting dignity and inclusion for senior citizens.
Organizers expect increased participation this year following the success of the inaugural event.
Sidian Bank Chief Executive Officer John Okulo said the sponsorship aligns with the bank’s commitment to creating positive social impact within communities.
He noted that senior citizens deserve support and recognition for the role they have played in building society.
Okulo said the bank views the initiative as an opportunity to contribute to a cause that directly affects vulnerable members of the community.
He added that supporting elderly citizens is part of the institution’s broader commitment to transforming lives and strengthening communities.
Participants in this year’s event will compete in 5-kilometre, 10-kilometre and 15-kilometre race categories.
Organizers say the event is not only about raising funds but also about creating a national conversation around the welfare of senior citizens and encouraging more organizations to support programmes targeting the elderly.
As economic pressures continue to affect vulnerable households, charities working with older citizens say demand for assistance has increased significantly.
Many elderly people live without reliable income and depend on family members, community support or charitable organizations for essential needs.
The Run 4 Seniors initiative aims to bridge some of those gaps while drawing attention to the importance of protecting the dignity and wellbeing of older people.
For Mama Ibado Charity, the sponsorship from Sidian Bank represents a major boost ahead of the July event.
For Kenya’s elderly population, it offers renewed hope that more institutions are beginning to recognize their needs and invest in programmes designed to improve their quality of life.
The event is expected to attract hundreds of participants, all running for a common cause: ensuring that Kenya’s senior citizens can age with dignity, good health and the support they deserve.
