Two Suspected Gang Members Lynched by Mob in Muguga

Two men suspected to be part of a criminal gang terrorising residents of Kiambu County died on Saturday morning after they were lynched by members of the public in Muguga area.

The incident occurred at around 11.00 a.m. after the suspects were allegedly discovered hiding in a farm. According to preliminary reports, the farm owner’s daughter spotted the two unfamiliar men roasting maize on the property and immediately alerted her father.

The farmer raised an alarm, attracting residents from the surrounding area. Within minutes, a crowd gathered and cornered the two men, whom locals allegedly identified as members of a gang that has been terrorising Muguga and neighbouring areas.

Residents accused the suspects of involvement in a series of robberies that have plagued the area in recent weeks. Some of the attacks reportedly involved stabbing victims during early morning and evening hours.

Locals said criminal incidents have been increasing, particularly around 5.00 a.m. and after 7.00 p.m., leaving many residents living in fear. Tensions in the area reportedly escalated after a man was killed during a robbery in the same locality about two weeks ago.

The crowd allegedly subjected the two suspects to mob justice. By the time police officers arrived at the scene, both men had succumbed to their injuries.

Residents expressed frustration over what they described as delayed police response and insufficient security patrols, claiming these gaps had allowed criminal activity to flourish.

They called on police to intensify patrols and respond swiftly to crime reports to prevent further incidents of vigilantism.

The bodies of the two men were taken to a mortuary as police launched investigations into the incident.
