Martin Munene Njenga Charged with Sh8 Million Fraud in Range Rover Scam

Martin Munene Njenga has been arraigned at Milimani Court over allegations of defrauding a Nairobi businesswoman of Sh8 million in a failed vehicle import deal.

Njenga appeared before Lucas Onyina at the Milimani Chief Magistrate’s Court, where he denied a charge of obtaining money by false pretence contrary to Section 313 of the Penal Code.

Arrest After DCI Complaint

Court documents show that the suspect was arrested after a complaint was lodged at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations offices in Kilimani, Nairobi.

Detectives arrested Njenga on October 12 following allegations that he had defrauded city residents through fraudulent schemes.

Alleged Range Rover Import Deal

The prosecution told the court that Njenga allegedly obtained Sh8 million from Agnes Wairimu on March 15, 2023, in the Lavington area of Dagoreti Sub-County.

According to court papers, he claimed he could import a Range Rover motor vehicle, a representation the prosecution says he knew to be false.

The complainant allegedly paid the money in the belief that the vehicle would be delivered. However, the promised importation did not materialise.

Bail Terms

After pleading not guilty, Njenga was released on Sh100,000 cash bail with a surety of a similar amount.

The court heard that investigations are ongoing, with detectives alleging that the accused had plotted additional schemes targeting other victims before his arrest.

The case will proceed to hearing at a later date.
