Parliamentary Aspirant Charged With Incurring Sh5.5 Million Hotel Debt

A Parliamentary aspirant has been charged in a Nairobi court for allegedly incurring a hotel bill of more than Sh5.5 million after receiving accommodation and luxury services at Gem Suites.

Kelvin Obondo Odhiambo, also known as Hon. Nyalik Oselu, appeared before Milimani Magistrate Rose Ndombi, where he denied the charges.

According to the prosecution, Odhiambo—jointly with others not before court—is accused of obtaining accommodation and consuming various hotel services at Gem Suites Hotel between 28 November 2024 and 3 March 2025, while falsely claiming he would settle the bill.

Court documents show that the accused allegedly incurred:

  • Sh3,120,000 for accommodation services

  • Sh2,413,000 for alcoholic drinks, water, and food

This brought the total bill to Sh5,533,000, which the prosecution says he had no intention of paying.

The prosecution told the court that Odhiambo misrepresented his ability to clear the bill, knowing the information to be false at the time the services were rendered.

The magistrate released him on a bond of Sh1 million pending further hearing and determination of the case.
