High Court Blocks Arrest of Medics in Mounjaro Drug Case

Two medics facing charges of administering an unregistered drug have secured temporary protection from arrest and prosecution.

The High Court issued orders blocking police from arresting Dr. Jane Njeri Kamau and nurse Vivian Chebet Masai.

The court also stopped the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) from proceeding with prosecution for now.

Justice Martin Muya Issues Temporary Orders

Justice Martin Muya directed the police to suspend any arrest action until the case is heard and determined.

The orders offer the two medical practitioners temporary relief as they challenge the charges.

Allegations Over Unregistered Drug

According to the charge sheet filed in court, the two are accused of administering an unregistered drug known as MOUNJARO (TRIZEPATID NEG).

The alleged offence is said to have occurred on March 1, 2025.

Prosecutors claim the drug was administered to Nancy Muthoni Warutumo without proper diagnosis, due care, or professional diligence.

It is further alleged that the patient suffered harm.

Arrest Warrants Previously Issued

On February 26, 2025, Milimani Senior Principal Magistrate Teressia Nyangena issued warrants of arrest against the two medics.

The warrants were issued after they failed to appear in court to take plea.

“The accused persons have no reason to be absent in court today. Warrant of arrest is issued,” ruled Magistrate Nyangena.

What Happens Next

The High Court orders now temporarily halt the arrest and prosecution process.

The matter will proceed to a full hearing where the court will determine whether the charges should continue.
