The Milimani Law Courts in Nairobi have charged two men afresh in connection with a high-profile cryptocurrency fraud case involving over Sh15 million in alleged Binance trading deception.
The suspects, Jackson Apollo Ananda and Alvin Oduya Atieno, appeared before Principal Magistrate Catherine Mugo, where they faced fresh charges after the consolidation of their separate cases.
According to the prosecution, the two allegedly defrauded investor Tuyishime Grace of USDT 116,000, equivalent to approximately Sh15,360,000, by falsely claiming they could help her trade profitably on the Binance platform — a claim investigators say was entirely fraudulent.
The charge sheet further indicates that the accused conspired to defraud the investor on April 30, 2025, at Serena Hotel in Nairobi, acting jointly with others who are yet to be apprehended.
Both Ananda and Atieno pleaded not guilty to the charges. The court directed that a probation report be prepared before bail terms are determined, signaling judicial caution given the growing trend of crypto-related fraud cases in Kenya.
The prosecution is expected to table digital forensic evidence tracing cryptocurrency transactions allegedly linked to the accused. Meanwhile, investigators are pursuing other individuals believed to have participated in the fraudulent scheme.
The matter is set for mention on October 9, 2025, as the court awaits the probation officer’s report.
This case adds to a growing list of cryptocurrency-related frauds in Nairobi, highlighting the legal system’s increasing engagement with digital finance crimes. Kenyan authorities have urged investors to exercise due diligence when engaging in online trading platforms like Binance, where scams have become increasingly sophisticated.
