Ambassador Everlyne Karisa Opposes KCB File Closure in Fraud Case

The Kenyan Ambassador to Cuba, Everlyne Mwenda Karisa, has opposed the proposed closure of a court file in a case where she sued Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) over alleged fraudulent transactions from her account.

The matter came up for mention before Honourable Lucy Njora to confirm payment and close the file. However, Karisa’s lawyer, Danstan Omari, objected to the closure, arguing that KCB had not provided documentary proof of the alleged refund of Sh779,603.

The court directed that the issue be determined through written submissions within seven days. A ruling is scheduled for 20th March 2026.

Background of the Case

In December 2025, the ambassador moved to court seeking orders to suspend further transactions on her accounts.

She also requested that KCB be compelled to provide a detailed report explaining how the alleged fraudulent transactions occurred.

According to court documents, Karisa has been operating her online banking platform from Cuba, where she has been stationed since October 2024.

It is stated that her Safaricom line was last active in Kenya on 13th October 2025 at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport as she traveled back to Cuba.

However, the court heard that transactions allegedly authenticated through her account occurred on 11th and 12th November 2025.

“Any activity purportedly authenticated through the applicant’s Kenyan lines after 13th October 2025 is inherently suspicious and invalid,” Omari submitted.

Alleged Transactions

The ambassador alleges that:

On 11th November 2025, a mobile money transfer of Sh150,000 was effected from her account without her authorization.

Seven additional transactions were processed, including a KCB salary loan advance of Sh92,303 and another loan of Sh33,800.

Her dollar account at KCB Garden Plaza Branch is linked to her Kenya Shillings account, potentially exposing her funds to further risk.

The court will determine whether the file can be closed after reviewing submissions from both parties.
