Kabuchai MP Majimbo Kalasinga speaking to the press over alleged death threats from National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula amid Chwele Ward by-election tensions.Kabuchai MP Majimbo Kalasinga addresses the press in Bungoma, alleging that his life is in danger following threats he claims were issued by National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula.

Kabuchai Member of Parliament Majimbo Kalasinga has sensationally claimed that his life is in danger, accusing National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula of issuing threats against him amid political tensions in Chwele Ward, Kabuchai Constituency.

Speaking to journalists on Monday, Kalasinga alleged that Wetang’ula made threatening remarks in the local dialect while addressing delegates at his home, suggesting that the legislator would not “make it to the next elections.”

“My brother Wetang’ula, you know what is going on clearly. There has not been a single time I have called the press to address such a matter. Give me time to deliver, or the electorate will,” Kalasinga said.

“We can interpret whatever you said. You stated that I will not cross over to the next elections. Where did you mean I should be — in heaven or Uganda?” he added, demanding clarification from the Speaker.

Political Fallout Over Chwele Ward By-Election

The remarks come in the wake of heightened political rivalry within Ford Kenya, the ruling party in Bungoma County, as campaigns intensify for the Chwele Ward by-election.
Kalasinga and Wetang’ula — once close political allies — are reportedly at odds over control of the party’s grassroots leadership and the preferred candidate for the ward seat.

The Kabuchai MP suggested that his fallout with the Speaker had triggered the threats, saying political competition should not escalate into personal animosity.
He further appealed to President William Ruto’s administration to intervene and ensure his safety.

Call for Investigations and Enhanced Security

Kalasinga urged Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja to move swiftly and investigate the alleged threats.
He claimed there is video evidence in the public domain that could help law enforcement agencies establish the truth behind the remarks attributed to the Speaker.

“The Inspector General should act fast and review all the material evidence, including videos circulating online. This is no longer a political issue but a matter of my personal safety,” he said.

The legislator also requested the Ministry of Interior to beef up his security detail, saying the matter could escalate if not addressed promptly.

 Ford Kenya Dismisses the Allegations

In response, Ford Kenya, through Simiyu Mutaki, who identified himself as Speaker Wetang’ula’s Personal Assistant, dismissed Kalasinga’s claims as baseless and politically motivated.

Mutaki maintained that the party was committed to peaceful campaigns and accused the MP of seeking sympathy and media attention.

“The remarks made by the MP are quite surprising. As Ford Kenya, we have maintained that we will hold peaceful elections, and we therefore dismiss these allegations in their entirety,” Mutaki said.

He further alleged that Kalasinga had compromised his own security by occasionally traveling abroad without one of his assigned bodyguards, calling his concerns “self-inflicted.”

At the time of publication, Speaker Wetang’ula had not personally commented on the allegations, and Kalasinga had not confirmed whether he had officially filed a police report regarding the threats.
