Run 4 Seniors Preparations Enter Final Stretch After Successful Mock Run at Karura

Preparations for the second edition of the Run 4 Seniors charity event have moved a step closer to completion after Mama Ibado Charity conducted a successful mock run at Karura Forest in Nairobi ahead of next month’s main race.
The pre-event exercise brought together sponsors, partners, volunteers and fitness enthusiasts as organisers tested race logistics, route preparedness, participant experience and safety measures before the main event slated for July 18.
The run, which is aimed at raising awareness and mobilising support for vulnerable senior citizens, has continued to gain momentum as more organisations and members of the public rally behind calls for better welfare, healthcare and dignity for older persons in Kenya.

Organisers say the mock run was an important part of ensuring that the event is delivered smoothly and safely while also building confidence among participants and partners.
Run 4 Seniors Chairman Moses Mwangi said the successful dry run showed that the team was on course to host a well-organised and impactful event. He thanked sponsors and partners for standing with the initiative and said their support had played a major role in helping the campaign grow.
Mwangi said the organisers are now calling on more Kenyans, corporates, institutions and community groups to register and participate, noting that the event is not only about fitness but also about standing with a generation that often faces neglect, financial hardship and health challenges in old age.
He added that the campaign continues to rally support from the private sector, development partners and the public in order to strengthen programmes that address the needs of elderly people, particularly those living in vulnerable conditions.
The initiative comes at a time when the welfare of senior citizens is increasingly becoming a matter of public concern, with many elderly Kenyans facing rising healthcare costs, food insecurity and limited social support despite years of contributing to their families, communities and the country.
KCB Foundation Director Mendi Njonjo, who was among those backing the initiative, said senior citizens remain an important part of society and deserve care, dignity and inclusion. She said older people have contributed immensely to building communities and the nation and should not be left behind.

Njonjo said initiatives such as Run 4 Seniors provide a strong platform for bringing together individuals, corporates and institutions to support vulnerable elderly people. She urged more Kenyans to join the movement and help create a society where no senior citizen is forgotten.
This year’s event will feature 5-kilometre, 10-kilometre and 15-kilometre race categories, alongside wellness and awareness campaigns aimed at promoting healthy ageing, dignity and social inclusion for senior citizens.
The second edition of the run is expected to attract hundreds of participants from across the country, building on the success of the inaugural event which drew significant public support and participation.
For Mama Ibado Charity, the event is more than a race. It is part of a wider effort to push the welfare of senior citizens higher on the national agenda and to remind the country that older persons deserve support, recognition and a dignified life.
With the mock run now completed, organisers say preparations are firmly on track as the countdown to July 18 begins.
