Phil emerged as the biggest winner of the night at Vurugu 2 after stopping Gachau by technical knockout in the sixth round of their heavyweight main event at Sarit Expo Centre in Nairobi.
The SportyBet-powered fight night drew a packed crowd and a strong online audience, but it was the final bout between Phil and Gachau that delivered the most dramatic moment of the evening. After six hard rounds, Phil forced the stoppage with a sustained attack that left Gachau unable to continue, sealing a technical knockout victory in front of a loud and expectant crowd.
The main event had been billed as the centrepiece of the Vurugu 2 card and it lived up to that billing. Both fighters entered the ring with strong backing from the crowd, but as the contest wore on, Phil gradually took control. He began finding his range, landing more consistently and forcing Gachau onto the defensive.

By the later rounds, the momentum had shifted clearly in Phil’s favour. Gachau continued to absorb pressure as Phil increased the intensity, and the referee was eventually forced to step in after a heavy spell of punishment. Gachau was later stretchered out for precautionary medical checks, bringing a dramatic end to the contest.
The result gives Phil one of the biggest wins of his Vurugu journey so far and positions him as one of the standout names from the event. His performance combined patience, pressure and clean finishing, qualities that ultimately proved too much for Gachau over the course of the fight.
The Vurugu 2 card had started much earlier with a series of undercard bouts that gave the crowd a taste of both rising local talent and more established fighters. The opening contests featured Steve Olang against Andrew Ojwang, Chris Milano against Jacob Mahindu, and Azaad Nazir against Bernard Achoki, setting the tone for a long night of boxing.

The second block of fights saw Dalmas Kyalo take on Solomon Muli, Isack Deogratius face Salim Omoit, and Lewis Kariuki meet Khalid in a set of bouts that kept the pace of the event high and gave fans plenty of action before the headline contests.
There was also strong interest in the women’s fight between Fatuma Zarika and Najma Isike, one of the notable technical matchups on the card, while Clinton Odhiambo’s clash with Tyson and a 72kg exhibition featuring a Somali boxer against Mahmud Muhsin added further variety to the night.

One of the other major attractions was the celebrity showdown between Arrow Bwoy and Shakib, a bout that had generated huge social media interest before fight night. The matchup drew a loud reaction from the crowd and added a different flavour to the event, reinforcing Vurugu’s model of combining boxing with celebrity culture and entertainment.
Still, for boxing fans, the night belonged to Phil.
His victory over Gachau gave Vurugu 2 the kind of emphatic finish organisers would have hoped for and capped an event that continues to grow in profile within Kenya’s fight scene. Beyond the celebrity attraction and concert feel around the show, the card also showed a continued effort to build a stronger local combat-sports platform by giving fighters exposure in front of large live audiences.
With conversations already beginning around a possible Vurugu 3, Phil’s sixth-round stoppage now stands as the defining image of the second edition — a brutal main-event finish that sent the crowd home with plenty to talk about.
