Steven John Waswa Charged in Sh233.7 Million Gold Fraud Case
Ugandan national Steven John Waswa has been charged before a Nairobi court over an alleged gold fraud amounting to Sh233.7 million.
Waswa appeared before Milimani Senior Resident Magistrate Irene Thamana, where he denied the charges.

Allegations of USD 1.27 Million Fraud
The prosecution told the court that Waswa allegedly obtained USD 1,271,200.74 (approximately Sh223,756,000) from Tanner Caldwell Cook.
The alleged offence occurred on diverse dates between March 31 and May 30, 2024, within Nairobi City County.
According to court documents, Waswa falsely pretended that he would sell gold to the complainant. However, the gold was never delivered.
Conspiracy to Steal Charges
The prosecution further alleges that Waswa conspired with others not before the court to steal the money.
Investigators claim the accused used false representations to convince Caldwell that a legitimate gold transaction was underway.

Bail Terms
Steven John Waswa was released on a bond of Sh2 million or an alternative cash bail of Sh500,000.
The case will proceed to hearing and determination at Milimani Law Courts.
