Car Dealer Kelvin Kamau Kihara Charged With Defrauding Client Sh3.5 Million

A Nairobi car dealer has been charged with obtaining more than Sh3.5 million by false pretences in a vehicle import deal.

Kelvin Kamau Kihara appeared before Milimani Senior Principal Magistrate Geoffrey Onsarigo, where he denied all the charges.

Alleged Fraudulent Car Import Deal

Prosecutors told the court that on diverse dates between September 2023 and September 10, 2024, at an unknown place within Kenya, Kihara fraudulently obtained Sh3,532,000 from Gloria Mwende Richard.

According to the charge sheet, Kihara falsely represented that he was in a position to import a Toyota Harrier on behalf of the complainant, a fact he allegedly knew to be false.

Proceeds of Crime Charge

In a separate count, the court heard that Kihara knowingly received Sh211,400 through his M-Pesa account, while knowing or having reason to believe that the money formed part of the proceeds of crime.

The prosecution stated that at the time of receiving the funds, the accused was aware of their illicit origin.

Denied 12 Counts, Released on Bail

Kihara denied a total of 12 counts related to fraud and handling proceeds of crime.

The court released him on cash bail of Sh500,000, pending further hearing of the case.
